I skipped school this week to take a vacation to Redmond, Oregon with my family. Although I really miss Gabz at Notre Dog Academy, Redmond is really dog-friendly too!
Nearby Bend, Oregon was named Dog-Town USA and Redmond seems just as friendly.
We stayed at Eagle Crest Resort because my boy had a golf tournament there. They have many pet-friendly hotel rooms, but we booked through VRBO and found a pet-friendly house to rent.
There was plenty for dogs like me to do at Eagle Crest
Mom and I wandered down a paved trail in the Lakeside area where we were staying. It was cool to see all of the pretty houses and some dogs said “hello” to me from their patios. After a while on that trail we came across a map that showed us a real trail up the hill above us. It was so cool up there, you could see all of Eagle Crest, Redmond and the mountains. Good thing we went early because it was nice and cool.
Hiking (and swimming!) at Smith Rock State Park
Mom said she had taken Dakota there and he loved it, so I was game. What an amazing and beautiful place. There were people attached to ropes on the sides of the rocks above us in several places. But I was more interested in the river. Mom and Dad let me swim a couple of times where it was safe. I met several dogs along the trail and one really big dog. Mom said his name was Llama. I was ready for a good nap after that hike!
Eagle Crest has several swimming pools and recreation centers. Good thing I needed a nap so that my family could enjoy them. My boy even played the putting course for fun with some of his golf friends.
We enjoyed cooking in the house some nights and sitting out on our patio for dinner and late night star gazing. But sometimes we explored restaurants in Eagle Crest and Redmond.

Where we ate in Redmond & Eagle Crest
- One Street Down Cafe – Mom has been coming here for years and is never disappointed. They brought me a water bowl while I rested in the shade.
- River Run Taphouse – In Eagle Crest overlooking the river is a patio serving beverages and pizza. They were very dog-friendly and we could hear the river too! Open Mon.-Thurs. 3-8 pm. (This is located next to the River Run Event Center.)
- Niblick & Greene’s – This local Eagle Crest locals hangout has an outdoor patio overlooking a big fountain and a nice menu. We even spotted our boy on the golf course from there. I heard the food was delicious!
- Blacksmith Public House – Although we just stopped here for coffee on the way to Smith Rock, we will definitely stop here again. There were several food trucks outside on the patio. They have live music for all ages of people and dogs. This looks like a great place to hang out!
There were so many taphouses with outdoor spaces in Redmond. I wish we could’ve stayed longer so I could enjoy the patios while my family had their dinner and drinks.
